Mathew Todd “Matt” Lauer is a skilled television journalist from America. He is best known for his works as the host of The Today Show on NBC. One of the biggest names in the TV industry, he has been working with Today since 1997. He contributed in for NBC program ‘Dateline NBC’ as well. Early Life and Background
Born on 30th December, 1957, in New York City, Matt is the son of Jay Robert Lauer, a bicycle-company owner and Marilyn Kolmer, a boutique owner. His parents got a divorce in his youth years and his father expired in 1997. Jay Robert Lauer, Matt’s father was a Romanian Jewish descent. He wasn’t raised to any particular religion and probably that’s why he desired to know something spiritual.
Lauer had graduated from the School of Media Arts and Studies (the school of telecommunication formerly) of Ohio University. He got his undergraduate degree from Ohio University at 39 years of age. In 1979, he had dropped out of the Ohio University’s School of Telecommunications in the springtime.

Matt began his career in television in 1979. He was the producer for WOWK-TV of 12 o’clock news in Huffington, West Virginia. He had become a reporter on-air by 1980. He was the reporter for the 6 o’clock and 11 o’clock newscast. He later began to move around the country and hosted many weekly talk programs and informative shows. He touched Philadelphia, Boston, Richmond and Providence. PM Magazine had him as a host in Providence. Later, he was the host at WNEW-TV in 1984, in New York City till the show got cancelled in 1986. He then co-hosted WNYW-TV in 1986 in a show called Made In New York alongside Jill Rappaport. He had also worked for ESPN during the 1980s. He hosted Talk of the Town of WNEV-TV as well, in 1988.
For around two years, from 1989-1991, Matt Lauren anchored a 3-hour long live interview event on WWOR-TV called 9 Broadcast Plaza. He was hired by Kushner-Locke Company in 1990.
From 1992 to 1993, he was a newsreader on The Today Show in place of Margeret Larson when required. He was officially named the anchor of Today Show after Bryant Gumbel exited. In addition to these responsibilities, he was also hosting programs on MSNBC and Discovery Channel.
Apart from works in NBC he has also appeared in a movie called Sharknado 2: The Second One and Sharknado the third edition. In 2015, he had interviewed Charlie Sheen where the actor disclosed that he had HIV.
