Albert Lincoln “Al” Roker Jr. is an American TV personality, producer, author, weather forecaster and actor. He is best known as the weather anchor of the show Today which airs on the NBC network. Al Roker also Co-hosted the morning show named Wake Up with Al, on The Weather Channel. He also appears occasionally on NBC Nightly News.
Early life and background
This famous television personality was born on 20th August in the year 1954, in Queens, New York. He is the oldest of six children born to parents, Isabel and Albert Sr, a bus driver of Bahamian descent.
Roker completed his former education from the Manhattan’s Xavier High School. At that time, he wanted to be a cartoonist. He spent four years indulging his interest in graphic arts and comics.
After that, Al joined the State University of New York at Oswego to major in graphic communication. But he found that he had a talent for meteorology and took classes in that subject.
Career achievements
Soon after completing his graduation, Roker started to serve as a weather caster for WTTG-TV in Washington. After that, he shifted to WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. This was his first job with NBC network. After five years of working with this channel, Roker moved to WNBC-TV in New York City to serve as a weekend weather anchor, in the year 1983. After two years of hard work and dedication, he received the “Best Weatherman” award from the New York magazine.
Roker received a boost in his career when his idol, Willard Scott stepped down from the The Today Show. Scott suggested Rocker’s name as his replacement. Roker joined this morning show to serve as a weatherman and featured anchor in the year 1996.
Apart from all these, Roker also Co hosted other shows like
Wake Up with Al from the year 2009 to 2015. After that, he moved to The Lift, a program for mobile apps. He also worked hard for the enrichment of digital contents and properties with the foundation of Al Roker Labs.
