Ryder was caught stealing $5,500 worth of clothes and accessories from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, California, on December 12, 2001. According to California’s Statute for Civil Recovery for Shoplifting, she signed two civil demands in the store’s security office before Beverly Hills Police arrested her.  As a result, she had to pay for the stolen and returned items.

 

At the trial, Ryder was accused of trying to get drunk by taking drugs like oxycodone, diazepam, and Vicodin without a prescription. She was found guilty of grand theft, shoplifting, and vandalism, but she was found not guilty of burglary.
