Pamela Ashley Brown is a popular American television newscaster and reporter who is known for her work at two of the biggest broadcasting corporations in the United States; ABC and CNN. Brown gained recognition after she was employed by the ABC affiliate in Washington D.C., WJLA-TV. She is also known for her work at ‘Politico’, the Arlington County, Virginia, based political journalism company for which she provided the lead into the video playback which is a daily recap of the big news stories of USA on the previous night. She currently serves in the position of a Justice Correspondent at CNN.
Brown developed an interest in politics at an early age with most of her family members having a political background. After joining CNN in 2013, she rose in ranks at the organization and is reckoned as one of the most respectable journalists of her time. Brown is known for her coverage of hard-hitting news stories that have had national and international impact. One of her best-known works include her report on human trafficking that led to the arrest of a pornographer. Brown was nominated for an Emmy award for her report.
Early Life and Education
Brown was born on 29 November 1983 in Lexington, Kentucky where her father John Y. Brown Jr served as the governor of the state. Her mother, Phyllis George is a former Miss America, a businesswoman and a former sports-caster. Brown has one biological sibling, an elder brother named Lincoln. She also has three half-siblings from her father’s first marriage to Eleanor Durall.
Brown attended the Henry Clay High School, Lexington from where she graduated and moved to North Carolina to attend University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She served as a reporter for the University’s official student television news program ‘Carolina Week’. Brown graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Career Rise
Brown started her career when she was hired by ABC7/WJLA-TV and later worked at Washington D.C. based News Channel8, where she served as a Sunday evening anchor. Brown received an Emmy nomination for the special project reports she covered, featuring national and international stories. Brown also served as an anchor of breaking news stories and covered various high-profile events. She travelled to Haiti to cover the 2010 earthquake. Brown gained prominence for her fight against sex trafficking of humans for which she made several reports that covered the menace on a national and international scale. Her reports are used by schools with a view to educate students about the crisis. One of her reports led to the arrest and conviction of a child pornographer.
Brown joined CNN in 2013 and has since reporter on several national and international significance breaking news stories. She traveled to Paris in 2015 to report on the Charlie Hebdo case of terrorist killing. She also reported from Germany about the investigation of the Germanwings Flight 9525. Brown served as a national correspondent and contributor on ‘New day’ the CNN morning program. Personal Life
Brown dated Adam Wright for a few years and got engaged to him in a surprise proposal in September 2016. The couple tied the knot in June 2017 at her childhood home in Lexington, Kentucky which was Brown’s chosen destination.
Brown’s father named her after his late sister Pamela Brown who died at the age of 28 along with her husband and a balloonist whole trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean in an air balloon.
