Born as Inquilab Shrivastava on 11 October 1942, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, Bachchan is the son of poet Harivansh Rai Srivastava who adopted the pen name Bachchan (meaning child-like) and homemaker Teji Bachchan. His birth named was inspired by the phrase “Inquilab Zindabad” meaning ‘Long live the Revolution’, which was a famous chant of the Indian Independence movement. Bachchan dated and later married his co-star of many films, actress Jaya Bhaduri in 1973. The couple have two children; an elder daughter named Shweta and a son named Abhishek.
