Williams was born on 19 August, 1970 in North Carolina, United States of America, where she was also raised by a single mother. Williams stated that she also had siblings while growing up. Williams attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of communications and African-American studies. However, she but also continued her private practice, fighting cases in the capacity of a defence lawyer in the state of North Carolina as well as Los Angeles.
