Alisia “Lisa” Salters is a renowned American journalist who is known for her work as a reporter at ESPN and ABC Sports also known as ESPN on ABC, where she has been working since 2000. Salters i a former sportsperson, having been a basketball player during her college years. As an ABC reporter, Salters was tasked with the coverage of the infamous O.J. Simpson murder case. She also served as a reporter for 7 years working at Baltimore, Maryland’s NBC affiliate WBAL-TV from 1988 to 1995.
As an ESPN reporter, Salters have reported breaking news stories across the world which include her coverage of stories in the Middle East in the days before the Iraq War. Salters covered the 2002 FIFA World Cup as an ESPN reporter and even served as a host for the network, during its coverage of the Winter Olympics in 2006 from Turin, Italy. Salters currently serves in the capacity of a side-line reporter for ABC sports, covering NBA and Monday Night Football for ESPN.
Early Life and Education
Salters was born on 6 March 1966 in the state of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to her parents who are natives of the census-designated area King of Prussia, where Salters was also raised. Not much is known about her family life as Salters has not divulged any information about her parents or siblings. She is of African-American ethnicity.
Salters attended the Upper Merion Area High School, King of Prussia from where she graduated. She later moved to Penn State University from where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in 1988. She played guard on the University’s basketball team, the Lady Lions and became the shortest player with a height of 5’2″ to ever play in the history of the school.
Career Rise
Salters started her career at ABC News, Los Angeles in the capacity of a correspondent in 1997 where she worked on shows like ‘World News Tonight with Peter Jennings’ along with several other ABC news shows. She covered big stories like the Oklahoma City bombing trials, TWA flight 800 Crash, the Matthew Shepard murder and the O.J. Simpson trial. She resigned from ABC in 2000.
In March 2000, Slaters joined ESPN in the capacity of a general assignments reporter. She is the current Monday Night Football side-line reporter and also covers the NBA on ABC as a lead side-line reporter. She is also a featured correspondent for ‘E:60’; the ESPN newsmagazine show. Salters received a Sports Emmy nomination in 2008 for her story “Ray of Hope”. Several of Salter’s ESPN reports have been featured on the series ‘Outside the Lines’. She did a comprehensive coverage of the murder trial of football player Rae Currath who played for the Carolina Panthers.
The 1.57 meter tall Salters also reported on the 2002 FIFA World Cup from Japan and South Korea and the 20004 Olympics from Athens, Greece while also hosting ESPN’s coverage of the Winter Olympics Games in 2006. Salters was named ABC on NBA’s lead side-line reporter in 2006 temporarily and in 2009 filled in the position for Doris Burke. Salters joined Monday Night Football as a replacement for Suzy Kolber in 2012.
