Dhue was born on 10 February 1969 in the city of Chapel Hill, North Carolina as the only daughter of the former vice president of World Championship Wrestling and its operations, Bob Dhue and his home-maker wife Hutton Dhue. She was raised as a Christian in Atlanta, Georgia where she spent several years of her early life.
Dhue attended the prestigious Westminster Private School in Atlanta, Georgia from where she completed her primary and secondary education and graduated high school. She later moved back to her birth city of Chapel Hill to attend the University of North Carolina from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of political science with a dramatic arts concentration.

Dhue began her career as an intern serving as a weekend morning anchor for the Atlanta, Georgia based ABC affiliate WSB-TV until she was offered the position of a weekend shows anchor at CNN in 1990 where she served as the host of show such as ‘CNN Saturday’, ‘CNN Sunday’, ‘The World Today’ and ‘World View’. Dhue met Thomas Calcoate while the duo was attending University together and soon started dating him. The couple got married soon after but their marriage ended in divorce after just a few years together.
