Lauren Susan Green is a renowned American broadcast journalist, a former beauty pageant title holder, television personality and an accomplished pianist. Green is best known for her work at Fox Network’s primary news channel, the Fox News Channel where she serves as the Chief Religion correspondent. Additionally, Green served as a FNC’s weekday headline anchor and provided news updates in the top and bottom hour of the network’s most watched news and talk show, ‘Fox and Friends’. Green also made multiple appearances on the late-night satire program ‘Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld’ as a guest panelist.
Green participated in the 1984 “Miss Minnesota” beauty pageant and emerged as the title winner. She became the first woman of African-American ethnicity in Minnesota to win the title. Green started gaining recognition of a national scale when she conducted an interview with Reza Aslam, the Iranian-American Muslim author and religion scholar in 2013 when the latter was invited to promote his book on Christianity. Green was criticized harshly for asking Aslam many “prejudicial” questions.
Early Life and Education
Green was born on 30th June 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA as the youngest child of her parents Bessie Grissam and Robert Green who raised her as a Christian. While her mother is a retired teacher’s assistant, her father served as a welder and janitor. Green’s four elder siblings include sisters, Barbara and Lois and brothers, Leslie and Kenneth.
Green showed an inclination in music when she was very young and was encouraged by her parents to pursue a career of her choice despite struggling with financial resources. Green enrolled into the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, specializing in piano performance. She also attended and graduated from the Medill School of Journalism in Northwestern University.
Career
Green participated in and won the title of the Miss Minnesota beauty pageant in 1984 and became the first African-American contestant from the state to ever win the crown. She represented her state in the Miss America Beauty pageant in 1985 and finished in the fourth position. Green embarked upon her career in journalism soon after when she was offered a correspondent and weekend news anchor position at the Chicago Illinois based CBS affiliate WBBM-TV, also known as CBS 2. In 1998, Green moved to St. Paul Minnesota when she was hired as a general assignment reporter at KSTP-TV, the ABC affiliate. Green served at several local broadcast stations simultaneously for a major part of her career.
In 1996, Green was employed as weekday head-line anchor for Fox News Channel’s popular show ‘Fox and Friends’, where she provided updates at the top and the bottom hour She also made appearances on ‘Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld’ as a guest panellist multiple times. Personal Life
Green was romantically involved with New York attorney, Ted Nikolis and married him after three years of courtship in May 2015. The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in a Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. She identifies herself as a “life-long Christian”, and religiously attends the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Green released a classical piano music album entitled “Classic Beauty”, in 2004. She was also a part of the ‘The Little Rockers’ band by Mike Huckabee, serving as its keyboardist, appearing on FNC’s show ‘Huckabee’.
