William Bret Baier is a renowned American television news and broadcast journalist who is best known for his work at the Fox News Network. Baier, has been serving in the capacity of a host of his own show titled ‘Special Report with Bret Baier’, which is a news and political commentary show that airs on weekdays at 6:00 p.m. ET on Fox News Channel. Baier started his career in television broadcasting when he was employed by WRAL-TV in Rockford, Illinois and served there for a few years until he was hired by the Fox network in 1998
Since joining Fox, Baier has served in various roles. Baier, currently, also serves in the capacity of the Fox network’s chief political anchor. He has also worked as the Chief White House Correspondent as well as the Pentagon correspondent for the network in the past. His career at Fox has seen its share of controversies but Baier remains one of the most highly coveted journalists of the Fox network.
Early Life and Education
Baier was born on 4 August 1970 in the borough of Rumson in New Jersey as the son of his parents, father Bill Baier and mother Pat Baier. Baier has one sibling, a brother named Tim Baier. He was raised in a Roman Catholic family and is of White Ethnicity. As a young boy, Baier served as an altar boy.
Baier studied at the private Roman Catholic high school, Marist High School in Atlanta, Georgia from where he graduated in 1998. He later enrolled into DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana from where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and political science after graduating in the year 1992. As a student of DePauw, Baier became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity’s Xi Chapter.
Career Rise
Baier began a career in television serving as a reporter for a local news station in Rockford, Illinois. He then joined WRAL-TV, a CBS affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina. While working at WRAL-TV, Baier in 1998, sent an audition tape made especially for Fox News and as soon hired as Fox’s Atlanta bureau chief. During the 9/11 attacks in USA, Baier drove from Atlanta, Georgia, to Arlington, Virginia in order to cover the Pentagon attack. This resulted in him being named as Fox’s Pentagon correspondent, serving in the position until 2006. During this period, Baier made 13 trips to Iraq and 11 trips to Afghanistan.
In 2007, Fox named Baier as the network’s official White House correspondent during which he reported stories on the George W. Bush administration. He was named as a substitute for Brit Hume for ‘Special Report’ in 2007 and a year later, replaced Hume to become the permanent host of the show, renamed ‘Special Report with Bret Baier’ in January 2009. As the host of the show Baier has interviewed several prominent personalities and politicians including Donald J. Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Dick Chaney, George W. Bush, Mike Pence among others.

Baier met Amy Hill in 2001 after being set up for a blind date by his friends. The couple were in a long-distance relationship with Baier being based in Washington D.C. and Hill in Chicago. Baier married Hill in 2004. Together they have two children; sons Paul Francis and Daniel Baier. Their elder son Paul had to undergo an open-heart surgery within 12 days of his birth. He also had to undergo two more open-heart surgeries as a child.
Baier resides with his family in Washington D.C, and is a practicing Roman Catholic who attends the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Georgetown.
