Judith Susan Sheindlin is a famous American practicing lawyer and a former judge, a television personality, producer and an author. She is popularly known as across America as Judge Judy for her reality courtroom series which is titled under the same name and has won the prestigious Emmy award.
Sheindlin started her career by becoming a prosecutor for the family court after graduating her law school. She later went on to become one of the highest paid celebrities on the American television for her show. She was titled with the name of Court Show Queen following the success of her reality series. She even holds a Guinness World Record for being the longest running judge in a courtroom themed programme.
Early life and education
Judy Sheindlin was born as Judith Susan Blum on October 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to a modest American family. In several reports and interviews that she did, she always described her father as “The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread” and her mother as “A Meat and Potatoes Kind of Gal”.
Sheindlin pursued her high school from James Madison High School and later enrolled herself in the American University which is located in Washington D.C. She graduated her University with a Bachelor of Arts degree where she majored in Government studies. She later finished her law degree from the New York Law School from where she achieved her Juris Doctor degree in the year 1965.

- Sheindlin married Ronald Levy in the year 1964 who was a prosecutor in the Juvenile Court. Following their marriage, the couple moved to New York. The couple have two children together, Jamie and Adam. They finally appealed for divorced after 12 years of marriage in the year 1976.
- Sheindlin remarried Jerry Sheindlin a year later in the year 1977 after her divorce from her first marriage. The couple divorced in the year 1990 after the rising struggles in Judith’s life after her father’s death but later remarried again in the same year. Judith is step-mother to three children, Gregory, Jonathan and Nicole from Jerry’s first marriage.
Career
Sheindlin was elected as the corporate lawyer after she passed her New York state bar examination the same year as her graduation. She soon gave up her job to raise her children but later took up the position as a prosecutor in the New York family courts where she defended cases against child abuse and domestic violence.
After her 60 minute segment that was featured in the CBS which brought her the nationwide recognition, she released her first authored book Don’t Pee on my Leg and tell me It’s raining. She was later offered the reality series, Judge Judy which she later accepted.
The show debuted on the national television on September 16, 1996 and celebrated its 20 year anniversary last year on September 14. The show has been rated as the #1 courtroom show right from the beginning.
Sheindlin has won a number of awards in her working career. Some of the most prestigious awards include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Mary Pickford Award, Daytime Emmy Award and even a Guinness World Record.
