Lila Diane Sawyer or Diane Sawyer is a talented television journalist from America. She was an anchor in ABC World News, which was ABC News’ nightly flagship. She was a co-anchor of Primetime newsmagazine and Good Morning America. Earlier, she was also a member of the White House staff under U.S. President Richard Nixon and was closely associated with the president as well.

Early Life and Background

Born on 22nd December, 1945, in Glasgow, Kentucky to Jean and Erbon Powers Tom Sawyer, Diane’s ancestry includes Irish, German, English and Scottish. Jean was an elementary school teacher while Tom was a judge. She and her family soon moved to Louisville after her birth where her father became a prominent community leader and Republican politician. He became a Judge/executive of Jefferson County and soon was killed in a car accident on Louisville’s Interstate 64 in the year 1969. Diane did her schooling from Seneca High School situated in Buechel, an area in Louisville. She worked as the editor-in-chief for The Arrow, her school newspaper. She loved participating in many artistic activities but described herself as a loner and shadowed by her older sister, Linda.

Diane Sawyer got her Bachelors of Art degree in 1967, with her major as English from Wellesley College situated in Wellesley Massachusetts. She was member of a cappella-singing group called Wellesley College Blue Notes. Sawyer was a member of Phi Sigma Lecture Society as well. She went on to attend the Law School from the University of Louisville before selecting journalism as her filed.

Career

Sawyer worked as the weather forecaster for WLKY-TV in Louisville. She soon found weather forecasting quite boring. In 1970 she moved to Washington D.C and interviewed for government offices as she was unable to find work as the weather journalist. She eventually worked as the assistant to Jerry Warren. She went to California for a while to work and came back to Washington D.C. in 1978. Diane worked as the general-assignment reporter for CBS. In the year 1984, she became the first female correspondent on 60 Minutes. 60 Minutes is an investigative-television newsmagazine and it became the top 5 most-watched show while Diane’s five year presence in it. In 2000, she returned to Primetime newsmagazine called Primetime Thursday.

2009 was the year when Sawyer became the successor of Gibson for Good Morning America. But Sawyer left GMA and was scheduled to be a part of ABC in January 2010. However, finally she planned to join CBS Evening News as its anchor.

Diane announced in June 2014 that she would stop working for the ABC World News in September 2014. She interviewed eminent personalities like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Saddam Hussein and many more.

She had a certain problem with Kris Jenner in 2015 about a comment for which she demanded an apology from him.

Mike Nichols was the person she got married to in April 1988. They did not have any children. However Nichols (died 2014, age 83) had a son and two daughters from his previous marriage. Sawyer has had relationships with US Diplomat Richard Holbrooke and Frank Gannon, a Nixon aide.
