Angela Merkel is a famous German political figure and is currently the Chancellor of Germany. She is also the head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). She has been the one joining the politics following the Revolutions of 1989. She was elected as the very first spokesperson for the first democratically elected East German Government.
Back in the 1990 after the unification of Germany, Merkel was elected as the Bundestag for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state and she has been re-elected since then till date. In the following year in 1991, she was also appointed as the minister of Women and Youth for the federal government.

Early life and education
Angela Merkel was born as Angela Dorothea Kasner in the year 1954 in Hamburg, Germany to Horst Kasner and his wife Herlind Kasner. Her father was a Lutheran pastor while her mother was a teacher of English and Latin. She has two younger siblings, a brother Marcus Kasner and her sister Irene Kasner.
Merkel was a very good student back in her school days and was awarded with a number of awards for her academics and even for mustering the Russian language. After completing her high school, she enrolled herself in the University of Leipzig and later earned her doctorate degree from the Central Institute of Physical Chemistry and Academy of Sciences. She wrote her thesis paper on Quantum Chemistry and has worked as a researcher and has published a number of papers since then.

Merkel was soon elected as the cabinet minister under the women and youth section in the year 1994. After the 1998 elections, she was elected as the Secretary-General of the CDU. She was soon very much accepted among the masses of the German people and people thought she would become the next Chancellor but that didn’t happen eventually.
Merkel was finally elected as the Chancellor of Germany on November 22, 2005 after a stalemate election was held.
