Early Life and Education

Born as Anthony J. Mahavoric on 29 February 1960 in in North Hollywood, California, Robbins is the eldest child of his parents John Mahavoric and Nikki Robbins. He has two younger siblings, a brother named Marcus and a sister named Tara. When Robbins was 7 years old, his parents divorced and his mother remarried. He was adopted by his step-father, Jim Robbins at age 12 and chose to legally adopt his name. He is of Croatian descent.

Robbins was raised in the Californian cities of Azusa and Gendora where he attended the Glendora High School. In his senior year, Robbins was elected as the president of the student body. He suffered from a pituitary tumour as a high school student. Having led a “chaotic” and “abusive” home life, Robbins left behind his home as a 17-year-old, neither did he attend college.

Career Rise

Robbins began his career as a seventeen-year-old where he promoted seminars for author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn. He met John Grinder, the co-founder of Neurolinguistic Programming in the early 1980s and entered into a partnership with him. His first infomercial, ‘Personal Power’ was released in 1988, which gave him nationwide exposure. Robbins then sold the self-help audiotapes for Personal Power. He started his Leadership Academy seminar in 1997. and also speaks at the Learning Annex seminar circuit. He featured as one of the top speakers at the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) conference in 2007, which went on to become the sixth most popular talk in the history of TEDx events by 2012.

Robbins is also the co-founder of Robbins-Madanes Center for Intervention along with Cloé Madanes. The organization aims to train life skills coaches that works towards helping individuals and families deal with issues like addiction. Robins along with Mia Hamm, Magic Johnson and Peter Gurber acquired the rights to the Los Angeles Football Club in 2014, which is scheduled to compete from 2018. Some of his individual clients include Bill Clinton, Hugh Jackman, Serena Williams and Pitbull and was named by Accenture in their “Top 50 Business Intellectuals” list. He was also named by Harvard Business Press in their “Top 200 Business Gurus” list.

Personal Life

Robbins has been married twice. Robbins met Rebecca “Becky” Jenkins at one of his seminars and married her in 1982. Robbins adopted Jenkins’ two children from her two previous marriages including actress Jolie Jenkins. The couple got divorced in 2001.

In 1984, Robbin’s was in a relationship with Liz Acosta and fathered a son named Jairek Robbins with her. His son also serves as a personal empowerment trainer. In October 2001, Robbins got married to Bonnie “Sage” Humphrey and resides with her in their Palm Beach, Florida home.
