Pichai Sundararajan or more precisely Sundar Pichai is an eminent Indian born American business executive. He is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google Inc. He has been holding the position since 2nd October 2015. Prior to this, he was the product chief of Google.
Early life and Background
Sundar Pichai was born on 12th July 1972 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father, Regunatha Pichai, was a senior electrical engineer in General Electric (GE) while his mother, Lakshmi, was a stenographer turned homemaker. Sundar comes of a very humble background devoid of any luxuries. He spent his childhood in Chennai in a two roomed apartment. He has a younger brother as well.
Pichai did his schooling from Jawahar Vidyalaya and Vana Vani school.Thereafter, he joined Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and earned his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After completing his graduation, he enrolled in Stanford University and acquired a M.S. degree in Material Sciences and Engineering. In addition to this, he holds an MBA degree from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Due to his talent he earned titles like Seibel Scholar and Palmer Scholar.
Career Achievements
Sundar started his career with McKinsey & Company. In the year 2004, he joined Google. Under his able leadership, Google has launched many successful products in the market which include the Google Chrome, Google Drive etc. He also contributed largely in development of many apps like Gmail and Google Maps. He announced the open-sourcing of latest video codec VP8 by Google on 10th May 2010. He also introduced the new video format WebM. Sundar has also contributed towards development of chrome operating system for laptops. The speciality of this operating system is that data can be stored in the cloud rather than in the laptop drives. Chrome laptops are extensively used in schools and colleges in USA due to its affordability and cloud data storage facility.
Sundar Pichai is also known for adding Android in the Google product list. He made this announcement on 13th March 2013. Android was previously managed by Andy Rubin. Also, he held the position of director of Jive Software from April 2011 to 30th July 2013.On 10th August 2015, Google announced Sundar Pichai as the new CEO of the company. He officially took up the responsibility on 2nd October 2015, after the formation of Alphabet Inc.

Sundar Pichai is married to Anjali Pichai. She is a chemical engineer from IIT Kharagpur. They met each other during their college days. As per media reports, Sundar proposed Anjali during his final year of engineering. After completing his studies in US, they got married. The couple is blessed with a son and a daughter.
It is often said that the credit of the spectacular rise in his career goes to Anjali. It was Anjali who suggested him not to quit Google after getting offers from Microsoft, Twitter and Yahoo!
