Early life and Background
Anil Ambani was born on 4th June 1959 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is the son of famous entrepreneur Late Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani. His elder brother, Mr. Mukesh Ambani is also one of the most successful business men of the country. Anil has two younger sisters, Deepti Salgaonkar and Nina Kothari.
Mr. Anil Ambani attended the B.C College under Mumbai University and earned a B.Sc. degree. Thereafter, he enrolled in “The Wharton School” under University of Pennsylvania and acquired the MBA degree. Apart from this, Anil is a long distance marathon runner and has participated in more than 50 half and full marathons. He is a highly spiritual man and a nature conservationist.

In the year 1983, Anil Ambani joined his father’s company as a co-chief executive officer. With his innovative business tactics, Reliance industries earned huge revenues. He is given the credit for leading India into the overseas capital market. With his effort the Reliance Industries earned a US$2 billion from overseas financial markets. On sealing a Yankee bond of 100 years in January 1991, people started to consider him as a “Finance Wizard”. Together with his elder brother, Mukesh Ambani, he made Reliance Industries as the leading textiles, petroleum and petrochemicals company in India.
After the sad demise of his father in 2002, Anil Ambani demerged from the Reliance Industries Limited. Anil Ambani has also invested in entertainment business. He has acquired Adlabs Films in 2005 and renamed it Reliance MediaWorks in 2009. He has produced several movies under this banner. Mr. Ambani has also entered into a US$1.2 billion joint venture with Steven Spielberg’s production house DreamWorks. Under this collaboration, Anil Ambani has produced many movies which include the Academy Award winning movie “ Lincoln”.
The prolific businessman has also contributed towards the upliftment of society. He has established Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH), Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA), Ahmedabad and many more. Apart from this, he is the member of various international organizations such as “President’s Global Council, New York University, USA”, “Advisory Board of Warwick Business School (WBS), UK “etc. Not only that ,he has also been appointed by Prime Minister as Co-Chair of the India-China CEO Forum and Member of the US-India CEO Forum. He was also elected as an independent member of Rajya Sabha in 2004.
