Alan Thicke was one of the most loved talk and game show hosts. He made the role of Jason Seaver popular in ABC’s popular series, ‘Growing Pains’. Thicke passed away at the age of 69 on 13th December, 2016.
Early life and Education
Alan Thicke’s name was Alan Willis Jeffrey and he was born on 1st March, 1947 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He was born to Shirley Isobel Marie and William Jeffrey. Thicke’s mother was a nurse while his father was a stockbroker. Alan Thicke’s parents divorced in 1953 and his mother went on to marry Brian Thicke and Alan Willis Jeffrey became Alan Thicke.
He went to Elliot Lake Secondary School and went on to attend the University of Western Ontario. Thicke became the homecoming king and also was a part of the Delta Upsilon fraternity.
Career
Thicke started his career in the showbiz with the First Impressions, which was a popular game show. He was also the game show host for Animal Crack-Ups, which was a popular celebrity show. He went on to Pictionary and All New 3’s a Crowd later on. Given Thicke’s popularity and way with the words, he was asked to head the writers of Fernwood 2-Night. Thicke went on to have his own show, The Alan Thicke Show. Thicke became so popular that he was commissioned to host the American syndicated late-night show, Thicke of the Night.
Thicke also had a successful career as a song composer with his ex-wife Gloria Loring. They worked on the themes of popular series like The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes. Thicke is credited with the themes of some popular television game shows as well. He worked on Celebrity Sweepstakes, The Wizard of Odds, The Diamond Head and others.
Thicke was popular thanks to his career as a game and talk show host. However, he became highly popular when he played the role of Jason Seaver, in the sitcom Growing Pains. The show became so popular that he even reprised the role of Seaver in two TV movies, The Growing Pains Movie and the Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers.
The charismatic host was well-known as Robin Scherbatsky’s (Cobie Smulders) father in the second Robin Sparkles music video in ‘How I Met Your Mother’. Thicke has made special appearances in shows like Adult Swim’s ‘Tim and Eric Awesome Show’, Great Job. Thicke also had a role in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard.

He married three times, the first marriage was to actress Gloria Loring, from whome he had to sons. He was in a relationship with Kristy Swanson, when she was 19 (1988) and he was 42. He went on to marry his second wife Gina Tolleson, Miss World 1990, in the year 1994. In the year, 1999, Thicke met Tanya Callau, in Miami. He married the model in 2005, who continued to be his wife, right till he passed away.
