Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro is a famous professional football player from Portugal who is touted as the greatest all-time football player, the best football player in the world and the best player of the game ever produced by the country of Portugal. Ronaldo is part of the Real Madrid, Spanish Football Club in which he plays as a forward and is often considered to be the sole player who has led the team to victory in several matches, winning awards and Accolades. He is also a part of the national Football team that represents Spain in national tournaments like the FIFA Football World Cup.

Ronaldo has been felicitated with several accolades. He is a five-time winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards, making him the only European Player to ever win the award multiple times. He is also the first player in the history of the game to have won four European Golden Shoes Awards, the most by any player. As a football professional, Ronaldo’s victories include 20 trophies, five of which are league titles, four UEFA Champions League titles and one UEFA European Championship among many other awards.

 

Early Life and Education

Ronaldo was born on the 5^th of February 1985 in the city of São Pedro, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal as the youngest child of his parents. His mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro worked as a cook while his father José Dinis Aveiro, a former municipality gardener, who also worked as a part-time kit-man. Ronaldo’s was raised in a small house in Santo António as a Christian along with his elder siblings, brother, Hugo and his older sisters Liliana Cátia and Elma.

As a child, Ronaldo played football with the Andorinha amateur team and for Nacional, a local club in Santo António. When he turned 12, the Sporting CP club signed him on as a player. Ronaldo moved to Alcochete near Lisbon and joined the youth football club academy. By 14, he had decided to pursue football as his professional career. He received permission from his parents to drop out of school to focus on his game, but was expelled for hurting a teacher by throwing a chair. At the age of 15, Ronaldo underwent a surgery due to his racing heart but resumed practice soon after recovery.

Career Rise

In 2003, the Manchester United Football club signed Ronaldo, when he turned 18.  He became a significant team member and won his first trophy, the FA Cup, which also contributing to the team’s victory in 3 Premier League titles. He was also responsible for helping the team clinch the UEFA Champions League title and was part of the winning team that won Portugal the FIFA Club World Cup. At 22, he was nominated for the title of the FIFA World Player of the Year as well as the Ballon d’Or Award. He won both titles at age 23. In 2009, Ronaldo was bought by the Real Madrid team after playing for Manchester United for 6 years. At €94 million, he became the expensive player to be transferred to another team in the history of any football club.

After joining the Real Madrid Club, Ronaldo won the La Liga titles two times. He also won two Copas del Rey titles, three Champions League titles and two FIFA Club World Cups. He was nominated for the Ballon d’Or and ended as a runner-up once times, winning twice in 2013 and 2014 consecutively. Ronaldo has also scored a record, 32 La Liga hat-tricks. He also holds the distinction of being the fastest player in La Liga history to reach 200 La Liga goals, achieving the feat in 178 matches played. In 2015, Ronaldo became Real Madrid Football Club’s all-time leading goal-scorer. His also won his fourth Ballon d’Or in 2016. Furthermore, Ronald has scored the most goals, a record 269 goals in the five main European league games with 105 goals in UEFA Champions League, 29 goals in UEFA European Championship, as well as 17 goals in UEFA Champions League, the most goals scored in a single season.

The 1.87 meter tall Ronaldo has a son named Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. born in 2010, who also lives with him. He has concealed the identity of his son’s mother. He also has twin children named Eva and Mateo Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s romantic relationships with English models Gemma Atkinson and Alice Goodwin and Russian model Irina Shayk received great Media attention. He has been romantically involved with Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez since late 2016.

Ronaldo courted controversy in 2005, when he was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in London. He was however acquitted after a month owing to “insufficient evidence”.
