Janice Dean is one of the most prominent news and television personality from Canada who is best known for her working with the national Fox Network where she serves in the capacity of a senior meteorologist as the network ‘s Fox News Channel. Dean serves in her home country of Canada and also appears on American television. Dean also appears on the ‘Fox News Live ‘ program as a substitute headline anchor. Dean is credited as being one of the most accurate weather forecasters in the USA and has received the monikers of “Janice Dean, the Weather Queen”, and “Janice Dean, the Weather Machine” with the latter being coined for her by anchor Shepard Smith, one of her FNC colleagues.

Soon after her graduation, Dean embarked upon a by-law enforcement career serving as a Canadian by-law enforcement officer during which she fulfilled several civic duties in Canadian neighbourhoods which included issuing parking tickets among several other similar law-enforcement related duties. Dean however became passionate about a career in the media industry and started out as an anchor on the radio at CHEZ-FM in Ottawa, Canada, working at various radio and television stations in Canada before she moved to USA.

Early Life and Education

Dean was born as a Canadian citizen in the city of Toronto on the 9th of May 1970. She was raised by her parents in the South-Eastern parts of the city of Ottawa in Ontario. Dean has never disclosed any information about her early life related to her family. It is not known if Dean has any siblings.

Dean completed her entire schooling from public schools in her native of Ontario and even graduated high school from her home city. She continued to live with her family when she began attending the Algonquin College in the same city from where she completed her graduation earning a diploma in the field of Radio & Television Broadcasting.

Career Rise

Dean’s first job in the media industry began in Ottawa, Canada when she was hired by the CHEZ-FM radio station in the capacity of a radio anchor, morning show reporter, DJ and occasional co-host. She went on to serve as a host, producer and morning news anchor of the radio program “Breakfast at the New RO” at CHUM Limited radio network and even served as an anchor and producer of the program “The Broad Perspective” on CFRA radio. She also anchored a show on KOOL-FM. Dean’s first role on an American radio network was that of a news editor and entertainment reporter on the popular radio program “Imus in the Morning” on New York’s WFAN-AM radio station which was also simulcast on MSNBC. She worked with CBS affiliate, WCBS-TV, also in New York, as an on-air traffic reporter for the weekend edition. Her first television appearance happened in 1997 when she served as an on-camera weather reporter for CBOT TV.

Dean became one of Houston, Texas’ most recognizable figure when she served at several local stations which include KODA-FM, KKBQ-FM, Metro Networks and KLDE-FM. Dean started gaining prominence when she was hired in 2004 by the Fox network which made her a household name. As of 2017, Dean also known as   “weather machine” and “weather queen” at Fox, has been serving as the network’s official senior meteorologist. She is applauded for her extremely accurate predictions of the weather and has reported on several storms including Hurricanes Katrina, Irene, Earl, Sandy etc.

Dean was involved in a romantic relationship with New York City Fireman, Sean Newman for several years and married him in 2007. The couple had a simple courthouse wedding. Dean and Newman are parents to two sons together, Matthew born in 2009 and Theodore born in 2011.

The 5 feet 7 inch tall  Dean has successfully battled Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic autoimmune disease, that attacks the protective outer sheaths of the body nerves. When she was 37, she was diagnosed with the condition.  This was at a point in time, when she was starting to think about beginning with her family.  At that time, she was covering Hurrianes Katrina and Rita.  She consulted with 3 or  4 doctors, and they all said that they had the condition, which affects nearly 400,000 people a year in the US.  She got support from her colleague Neil Cavuto who told her that he had been able to  get rid of his condition, with a good, understanding boss like Roger Ailes.

Dean decided to take her chin up and fight the disease. She had to taken an injection daily to slow down the progression of the disease and reduce the chance of a relapse.  She says the wonderful thing was that when she had become pregnant, her MS symptoms were suppressed. Due to her commitment and positive attitude, she was able to defeat the disease. Dean also went on a  balanced diet and drank lots of water. She began to substitute red meat for chicken and would make it a point to exercise at least 20 minutes a day.
