Reinhold Richard “Reince” Priebus is a renowned American lawyer and politician who served as the Chief of Staff at the White House for United States President Donald J. Trump from January 20, 2017 to July 31, 2017. He has been serving in the position since January 2017 and had earlier served the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Additionally, Preibus was also an RNC general counsel as well as the Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman.
Preibus started his political career at age 16. He worked for the Education Committee of Wisconsin State Assembly as a clerk and when he was studying law, he worked at the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, Wisconsin. In the recent times, Preibus has been embroiled in various controversies regarding his management style as the Chief of Staff and has been asked to tender his resignation by President Trump himself.
Early Life and Education
Preibus was born in Dover, New Jersey on 18 March, 1972 and raised in Netcong, New Jersey in the early years of his life. His family consisting of his mother Dimitra, a real estate agent and father Richard Preibus, an electrician, later moved to Green Bay in Wisconsin. Preibus is of English and German ancestry on his father’s side and Greek ancestry on his Sudanese-born mother’s side.
Preibus graduated from Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1990. He later enrolled into the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and graduated in 1994, with majors in English and Political Science. Preibus then earned his Juris Doctor degree after enrolling into University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida, graduating in 1998.
Career Rise
Preibus was elected the Wisconsin Republican Party chairman in 2007 and was named the Republican National Committee’s general counsel in 2009. In 2010, he stepped down from his role as the general counsel of RNC in order to run for the committee’s Chairmanship and was elected the RNC Chairman in January 2011. Preibus held the Chairmanship of RNC for 3 terms. During his first term he reduced the $23 debt inherited by his predecessor Micheal Steel to $11.8 Million and even raised $88 Million. During his second term he worked at transforming the image of his party and started the ‘Growth and Opportunity Project’. In January 2015, he was re-elected as the RNC Chairman for his third term and in April 2016, pledged his allegiance to the party’s presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump.
In December 2016, Preibus was chosen by President elect Trump to be the White House Chief of Staff and assumed office in January 2017. Preibus was given full singular control over who was and wasn’t allowed inside the Oval Office. Recently it was announced that Preibus has been asked by President Trump to tender his resignation and leave The White House by 4 July 2017, following some controversies.
Personal Life
Preibus met his eventual wife Sally L. Sherrow when they were teenagers attending church. The couple dated for a long time and finally tied the knot in 1999. Together, the couple have two children; a daughter named Grace Preibus and a son named Jack Preibus.
Prebius identifies himself as a Greek Orthodox.
