Rachel Maddow is a popular American television personality, author and a political commentator. She is best known for her television show “The Rachel Maddow Show” which is broadcasted by the MSNBC. In addition to this she has also hosted a radio talk show bearing the same name which was broadcasted by “Air America Radio”. For her talent she won several awards and accolades.
Early life and Background
Rachel Maddow was born on 1st April 1973 in Castro Valley, California, United States of America. Her father, Robert B. “Bob” Maddow, was a United States Air force Captain and a lawyer. His mother, Elaine Maddow , was a school program administrator.
She has an elder brother named David. She completed her school education from Castro Valley High School. Then she joined the Stanford University and earned her graduation degree in public policy in 1994.
Thereafter, in the year 1995, she joined the Lincoln College in Oxford to attain her post graduate degree. She also acquired the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in politics from Oxford University in the year 2001. During her college days, her talent won her John Gardner Fellowship and Rhodes Scholarship.
In the year 1999, Rachel started her career as a host of radio shows for WRNX (100.9 FM) in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Thereafter, she hosted Big Breakfast on WRSI in Northampton, Massachusetts. Apart from this she was a part of several shows like Unfiltered, The Rachel Maddow Show etc.
In June 2005, Rachel got the opportunity to become a regular panelist on the show “Tucker” which was broadcasted by MSNBC. She also did a guest appearance on “Paula Zahn Now” which was broadcasted by the CNN during the 2006 November election. In addition to this, she served as a correspondent for “The Advocate Newsmagazine”.
In January 2008, she became the political analyst for the MSNBC show called “Race for the White House”. She also contributed regularly for the show “Countdown with Keith Olbermann”. She also hosted shows like Countdown etc. In August 2008, it was announced by MSNBC that the show “Verdict with Dan Abrams” would be replaced by “The Rachel Maddow Show” in the prime time slot of 9 PM. With this show she earned huge popularity not only in the media world but also among the masses.
Her talents made her appear in various popular magazines like the “People”, “The Guardian”, and “The New York Observer”. She also appeared in TV shows like “The View” and “Charlie Rose”. She also wrote a book called “Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power” in 2002. In December 2003, Rachel got the chance to write a column every month for the paper “The Washington Post”.

Rachel Maddow is gay. She is in a relationship with Susan Mikula since 1999. They met each other when Rachel was preparing for dissertation for doctorate. They reside in Manhattan and western Massachusetts.
