David Jason Muir is an American TV anchor and journalist born on November 8, 1973. Muir hosts ‘World News Tonight with David Muir’ on ABC and is the former host of ABC World News Tonight. He was also the primary substitute for Diana Sawyer and replaced her in 2014.

Muir is a celebrated international journalist and has won numerous Emmy Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award for his work. He is also one of the most visible journalists in America and according to a report, Muir had the highest airtime in 2012 and 2013. TMZ had branded him as the Brad Pitt of news anchoring.

Early Life and Education

David Muir was born in Syracuse, New York and spent a major part of his childhood in Onondaga Hill. He has one sibling, one nephew and three nieces. He graduated from Onondaga Central Junior Senior High School, Onondaga in May, 1991 and joined the Park School of Communications under Ithaca College, New York.

He graduated from college in 1995 in the field of Journalism. He attended the Georgetown University’s Political Journalism at the Fund for American Studies, and at the University of Salamanca, Spain while still in college.

Career

Muir was employed with WTVH television from 1995 to 2000. His reports from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and Israel earned him top honors from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.

He was awarded the Best Television Interview and the Best Enterprise Reporting by The Associated Press while The Syracuse Press Club presented him with the Best Local Newscast award. Muir was also recognized as one of the most influential international reporters in Syracuse.

He joined the ABC network in August 2003 and hosted the overnight show Word News Now. He started anchoring World News Saturday from June 2007. He started co-anchoring the newsmagazine Primetime from 2006 and by 2012 he became the anchor of choice for the weekend newscasts.

Muir is responsible for the gradual increase in the ratings of the evening broadcasts during the weekends.

In May 2011, Muir delivered the commencement address at the Ithaca College, New York. During the event, he urged the youngsters to raise their voice and introduce positive changes in the community. In May 2013 David Muir as presented with the honorary Doctor of Letters Degree from the Ithaca college along with the prestigious Jessica Savitch Award of Distinction for Excellence in the field of journalism.

While delivering the commencement address at the Northeastern University in Massachusetts On May 8, 2015 Muir was presented with the honorary Doctor of Media degree. He also supports numerous social causes and is known for donating to charity.

David Muir is an active social media user and carries on with his style of investigative journalism on Facebook and Twitter.

Personal Life

Though reports state that he is gay, it is not confirmed as to who he is dating.
