Donald John Trump is the current President of the United States of America. He became the 45th President of USA after assuming office on January 20, 2017. Trump had an active career as a business man before he entered politics and was known for producing and appearing on the business reality television show ‘The Apprentice’. Early Life and Education

Trump was born on 14 June 1946 in New York City to a Scottish born mother Mary Anne MacLeod Trump and American real estate developer Frederick Christ Trump Sr. Trump has Scottish ancestry on his mother’s side and German ancestry on his father’s side, with his paternal grandparents being born in Germany and immigrating to USA in 1885. Trump has four siblings; 2 sisters Maryanne and Elizabeth and 2 brothers; Robert and Fred Jr., and was raised as a Christian.

During the early years of his life, Trump studied at Kew Forest School, Forest hills, New York. He was sent to New York Military Academy (NYMA) when he was 13 and became the head of student council and graduated in 1964. For 2 years, Trump attended Fordham University and then enrolled into Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania and in 1968, graduated with a degree in Economics.

Career Rise

Trump joined ‘Elizabeth Trump and Son’ at age 16 and entered the real estate business. He moved into his family business fulltime in 1971 and started getting involved with larger projects, finalizing several multi-million dollar transactions in real estate. He purchased Mar-a-lago estate in Palm Beach in 1985, Plaza Hotel in New York City in 1988 and a fleet of Boeing 727 airplanes in 1989 to form the Trump air shuttle service. He also invested in several casinos including Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City. Trump started working on West Side rail yards for a Riverside south development. In 2003, Trump became a partner with National Broadcasting Company (NBC) which aired his shows ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’. Trump marketed ‘The Trump name’ on several products which include ‘Trump Financial’, ‘Trump Entrepreneur initiative’, ‘Trump Sales and Leasing’, ‘Trump Restaurants’, ‘Donald J. Trump signature collection’, ‘Go TRUMP’ etc.

Trump always expressed an interest in a career in politics and entered the presidential race in 2016 as a Republican, defeating sixteen opponents in primaries with his campaigns receiving extensive coverage from the media while he made several controversial statements. He defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and became President elect on 8 November 2016, despite the fact that he lost the popular vote. After assuming Presidency Trump changes several policies established by his predecessor, Barack Obama including revoking Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”), ordering a travel ban on the citizens of six Muslim-majority nations and dismissing FBI Director James Comey to appoint Robert Mueller who would investigate Russia’s interference in his presidential campaign.

Personal Life

Trump has been married thrice. In 1977, Trump married Ivana Zelníčková, a Czech model at Manhattan’s Marble Collegiate Church. The couple had three children together; sons Donald Jr, and Eric and a daughter named Ivanka. During the time Trump had an affair with Marla Maples, an actress and Ivana filed for divorce in 1992. In 1993, Trump had a daughter with Maples and named her Tiffany. The couple married in December 1993 and divorced in 1999.

Trump’s third marriage was with Slovene model Melania Knauss in January 2005 with the couple tying the knot at Palm Beach’s Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Florida. The couple became parents to a son named Barron in March 2006. Trump’s daughter Ivanka is married to Jared Kushner who serves as Senior Advisor to the President in the White House. Trump has eight grandchildren.

The 1.88 meter tall Trump owns several properties which include a stately columned home where he grew up in New York’s Jamaica estates neighbourhood in Queens county, an apartment in Manhattan’s Upper East side, An estate in Bedford, New York, known as Seven Springs which is on a 200 acre property, and an oceanfront estate called Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach Florida.

Trump resides at the iconic 58 storeys tall Trump Tower building in Fifth Avenue, Manhattan New York in which he has his several office buildings as well as his 10,996 square feet family home, which are the top three floors in the Penthouse. The apartment is decorated in 24 carat gold and marble, modelled after the iconic French Palace of Versailles in Louis XIV style.

As President of USA, Trump draws an annual salary of $400,000 but has decided to forego his salary and take only $1 for every year of Presidency. He is said to have donated his entire first and second quarter salary to national charities. He has an estimated net worth of $3.5 Billion.
