His mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro worked as a cook while his father José Dinis Aveiro, a former municipality gardener, who also worked as a part-time kit-man. Ronaldo’s was raised in a small house in Santo António as a Christian along with his elder siblings, brother, Hugo and his older sisters Liliana Cátia and Elma.
As a child, Ronaldo played football with the Andorinha amateur team and for Nacional, a local club in Santo António. When he turned 12, the Sporting CP club signed him on as a player. Ronaldo moved to Alcochete near Lisbon and joined the youth football club academy. By 14, he had decided to pursue football as his professional career. He received permission from his parents to drop out of school to focus on his game, but was expelled for hurting a teacher by throwing a chair.
