Christopher Charles Cuomo is an American television journalist as well as a lawyer and is known for his work on the CNN network, where he co-anchors the morning show ‘New Day’. He was previously associated with the ABC News network where he served in the capacity of the chief law and justice correspondent as well as the news anchor on ‘Good Morning America’. Cuomo holds the distinction of being the youngest ever correspondent at 20/20, an Emmy Award winning magazine from ABC News.

Cuomo has received several Emmy Award Nominations and has won the Polk and Peabody awards. One of his most notable works includes the profile coverage of Mattie Stepanek, a 12-year old poet, on Good Morning America, for which he won a News Emmy and achieved the distinction of becoming one of the youngest correspondents in history to ever receive a News Emmy.

Early Life and Education

Cuomo was born on 9 August 1970 in the borough of Queens in New York City, New York to Former New York Governor, Mario Cuomo and his wife Matilda Raffa, because of which Cuomo lived in the Governor’s Mansion in Albany with his family, until his father left office in 1994. Cuomo has three siblings, sisters Maria Cuomo Cole and Margaret I. Cuomo and an older brother Andrew Cuomo, who is the current Governor of New York.

Cuomo first attended a private University preparatory day school called the Albany Academy in Albany, New York and later went to Yale University from where he obtained his undergraduate degree. Cuomo then attended and graduated from Fordham University with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in Law in 1995 and took up a career as a lawyer at Wall Street.

Career Rise

Although Cuomo had a high flying career as a lawyer, he found the field unsatisfying and deliberated a career in journalism. His early career in the field of journalism saw him make appearances on networks like CNN, MSNBC and CNBC where he spoke about social and political issues. He later served as a correspondent on the Fox News Channel as well as the network’s show Fox Files where he covered a wide range of stories that focused on controversial social issues. Besides this he served in the capacity of a political policy analyst for the network’s news channel.

As a co-anchor on 20/20 at ABC, Cuomo’s coverage of heroin addiction that affected suburban families garnered a lot of appreciation. He also covered other significant stories such as the Haiti earthquake, homeless teens, bullying and child custody. Cuomo went undercover to look at the for-profit school recruiters which led to a nationwide policy change. He served as a news anchor on Good Morning America as well as a primary reporter for breaking news stories and covered world stories in over 10 countries including the terrorism wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

Cuomo moved to CNN in February 2013 and worked as a field anchor for some time. He is the current co-anchor of the show ‘New Day’. He reports breaking news stories and major events on shows across the network.

Wife

Cuomo dated and later married Christina Greeven, Editor of Gotham Magazine in Southampton, New York, in a Roman Catholic Ceremony. Together, the couple have three children; two daughters named Bella and Carolina and a son named Mario.

The family resides in Manhattan, New York City.
