Anderson Cooper is a famous journalist hailing from United States of America. He is best known for hosting the show “Anderson Cooper 360” which is broadcasted by CNN News. Apart from this, he is an active correspondent for “60 Minutes”. He also hosted the daytime show “Anderson Live” from September 2011 to May 2013.
Early Life and background
Anderson Cooper was born on 3rd June 1967 in New York City, United States. He has a very well to do background. His father, Wyatt Emory Cooper, was a writer. Her mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, is an artist, actress, writer, socialite and an heiress. His maternal grandparents were multi millionaire while his maternal great-great-great-grandfather was a business tycoon. He had an elder brother who committed suicide at the age of 23. His father died at the age of 50 after suffering from a series of heart attacks while he was undergoing an open heart surgery.
Anderson attended the Dalton School for his school education. Thereafter, he joined Yale University and earned his graduation degree in political science in the year 1989.
Career
After earning his graduation degree, Anderson tried to get an entry level job position in ABC but failed in his attempts. After that he took the help of one of his friends to get fake press pass. He started working as a fact checker for a small news agency called Channel One. He then entered Burma and covered the news of the agitation of students with Burmese Government.
In the year 1995, Anderson finally got the chance to work for ABC News. He joined the network as a correspondent but in subsequent years he became a co-host of the show “World News Now”. In the year 2000, he started working as a host for the reality show called “The Mole”.
Anderson left the reality show after its second season and again moved his focus to broadcasting news. He then joined the CNN network in 2001 as a co-anchor of the show “American Morning”. Later he became a primetime news anchor. On 8th September 2003, Anderson started anchoring the show Anderson Cooper 360°. He has covered many significant events for the channel like aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Pope John Paul II’s death, wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker and many more. Apart from this he hosted shows like Planet in Peril, CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, Anderson Live etc. In addition to this, he also serves as a regular correspondent of 60 minutes which is broadcasted by the CBS news.
Cooper is also a freelance writer and has written many articles for different magazines like the “Details”. He also released a memoir for Harper Collins called “Dispatches from the Edge” in May 2006. On 18th June 2006, it gained the top spot in the list of New York Times bestseller.
In his glorious career, he has won many awards and accolades which include Bronze Telly, Emmy Awards, GLAAD Media Award, Peabody award and many more. He also appeared in movies like the Chappie (2005) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).
